The Finnish-Egyptian artist and choreographer Samira Elagoz (1989) will be one of the special guests of the 13th edition of Ambulante Film Festival. During two days, the artist, who is also a filmmaker, will be presenting her documentary performance Cock, Cock… Who’s There? A story of violence and intimacy.

Cock, Cock… Who’s There? was born after Samira Elagoz experienced sexual abuse. A rape led her into creating this project, that explores some consequences of what she lived.

With visual brutality and stoic explanations full of irony, the artist submerge us into this social research, that reveals why sexuality and power are gender issues. In the documentary performance Samira Elagoz tells a very personal story with many contrasts: through interviews with her family and friends, which she made for her first abuse anniversary, she opposes feminine and masculine perceptions of sexual assaults. At the same time, always with both personal and sociological goals, she discovers and analyzes the masculine aspects of being in contact with an attractive woman, through footage of men of different nationalities.

With satire and visual irony, the artist discovers universal problems that make the spectators look at themselves and think about their own sexuality and the way they practice it. Cock, Cock…Who’s There? provokes essential questions in order to understand the many ways of sexist violence that women live in their daily life, and the possibilities that exist to reinvent sexuality, to take the power back and to be able to have relationships with men after being a rape victim.

The documentary performance will be presented on May 8th and 9th at 8PM at Foro del Dinosaurio of the Museo Universitario del Chopo, located at calle Dr. Enrique González Martínez 10, col. Santa María la Ribera, del. Cuauhtémoc. This activity will be free.
