We are Una mano para Oaxaca, a non-profit made up of young women from different regions, with their hearts set to help. We have learned the value of hard work and resilience by collaborating for over a year with 100 families.
Love and respect for Ixtaltepec, and fear of an uncertain future after the earthquakes, encouraged us to join together for this cause. They say full economic recovery, in the communities where we work, will take ten years, but we want to shorten that estimate. We also seek to reclaim traditional trades in order to create jobs for new generations, prevent labor migration, and heal the social bonds that sustain our community.
Our goal is for 60 women or men from Ixtaltepec, Ixtepec, Espinal, and Juchitán to achieve economic independence through new productive activities such as the creation of Zapotec-related murals, traditional weaving, hammock making, and herbal knowledge leading to product development.
